The observer is part of the system

Second-order cybernetics studies the observer observing. Applied to search, we do not just watch behaviour – we watch how our watching changes what intent means.

Heinz von Foerster's insight is the foundation of systemic therapy and, here, of Systemic SEO. A search engine that models intent alters the intent it models. A page that names an unspoken need brings that need into awareness. Cause and effect fold back on each other.

From family systems to query systems

In systemic therapy a symptom is read inside the family system that sustains it. In Systemic SEO a query is read inside the home, work and family systems that produced it. The same discipline – trained through coaching and supervision – transfers directly. It is why Johannes Faupel can do this work at all.

A search engine attempts to simulate systemic context by transforming one keyword into a story, a user intent. So it is natural to bring the wide and deep systemic approach to optimisation itself.
